What is "The Leader in Me?"
A.L. Horton is pleased to be engaging in a new program at the school, called "The Leader in Me". This is a school based program designed using "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" from the Franklin Covey group.
You should already be hearing "The Leader in Me" language at home. In September, October and November we focused on habit 1 - 'Being Proactive' - being in charge of our moods, attitudes, and actions. You may have heard, "you filled my bucket" as well. Ask your child about what Habit 1 is all about.
We spent December and January focusing on habit 2 - 'Begin with the End in Mind' - setting goals and planning ahead, choosing to do things that have meaning and make a difference. You may have heard of your child working on personal and classroom mission statements.
During the months of February and March, we worked on habit 3 - 'Putting First Things First' - deciding what's most important and taking care of that first (our "big rocks"). Our assembly focused on "Don't Flip Flop", ask your child about it.
April focused on habit 4 - 'Think Win -Win'. May's theme was habit 5 - 'First Seek to Understand, Then to Be Understood.
There are activities in the student agenda that can help you know the questions to ask your child.
Parent Guide - This document provides different ways that parents can interact with their children at home. This guide will give parents a brief description of each habit and some activities that help support teaching the habit.
